Mit dem Surface Duo brachte Microsoft im September 2020 ein vielversprechendes Android-Smartphone mit doppeltem Display zunächst exklusiv in den USA auf den Markt. Rund ein halbes Jahr später erfolgte der Marktstart in Europa bzw. in Grossbritannien, Deutschland und Frankreich. In die Schweiz schaffte es das spannende Gerät nie, zumindest nicht offiziell.
Das Microsoft Surface Duo wurde ab Werk noch mit Android 10 ausgeliefert, obwohl Anfang 2021 natürlich schon Android 11 verfügbar gewesen wäre. Die Redmonder versprachen damals ein Software-Update bis spätestens Sommer 2021. Daraus wurde bekanntlich nichts. Nicht näher genannte Probleme mit dem Update sorgten immer wieder für Verschiebungen.
Jetzt endlich die gute Nachricht für alle Nutzer*innen des ersten Microsoft Surface Duo: Das grosse Software-Update auf Android 11 wird nun endlich verteilt. Neben den neuen Android-Features hat Microsoft auch das eine oder andere exklusive Surface-Feature verbessert und optimiert. Darüber hinaus wird der Sicherheitspatch auf den aktuellen Stand Januar 2022 aktualisiert.
Doch wie sieht es mit dem Update auf Android 12 aus? Eine berechtigte Frage. Es wird aktuell gemunkelt, dass Microsoft das Surface Duo direkt auf Android 12L aktualisieren möchte. Das ist eine angepasste Android-Version, welche sich besonders gut für Tablets und Foldables eignen soll. Diese Version befindet sich aktuell allerdings noch in der Betaphase.
Mit einem baldigen Update auf die aktuelle Android-Version, egal ob Android 12 oder Android 12L, sollte für das Microsoft Surface Duo deshalb nicht gerechnet werden.
